Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp sent a relegation SOS to retired centre-back Ledley King last season.
Former Tottenham Hotspur skipper King called time on his 13-year career last summer after a long-term battle with a chronic knee problem.
But the one-club man was approached by Redknapp – who wanted him to lace up his boots once more and save QPR from relegation to the Championship.
But his request fell on deaf ears and the R’s dropped out of the Premier League.
“I believe he tried to [get me to come out of retirement], but he didn’t manage to get hold of me.
“I wouldn’t have done it though.
“I played at Tottenham my whole life and it would have been a bit silly to try and come back knowing I can’t do what I want, play the way I like to play. I have barely kicked a ball since I retired.
“And I also have got such a great affiliation with Tottenham, so I would like to leave it there.”
