Manchester United are preparing a bid for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan amid rumours the player is unsettled in Germany. Gundogan is delaying on signing a new contract that would extend his stay in Dortmund beyond the 2015 expiry of his current deal.
Gundogan is understood to have been unsettled by the way in which Dortmund have dealt with his recovery from recent injury.
The German international midfielder developed a back problem playing in a friendly against Paraguay in August – a knock that is likely to rule him out until late September at the earliest.
In his absence, Nuri Sahin has shone for Dortmund - which has opened the door for a possible Gundogan departure.
United are believed to be ready to gamble on Gundogan's fitness and take advantage of growing uncertainty surrounding the player as the transfer deadline approaches.
After having lost key attacking midfielder Mario Gotze to fierce rivals Bayern Munich before the end of last season, Dortmund would be unlikely to listen to offers below £25 million for Gundogan
