The 24-year-old centre-half has previously stated that he would like to move to the Premier Leageu but it is the Rojiblancos who have made a bid for the Belgium international Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has revealed that the club have rejected an offer from Atletico Madrid for defender Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgium international has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League, with Everton and Tottenham among those reported to be interested in the centre-half, but the Rojiblancos are the latest to enter the race for his signature having lodged an official bid.
However, Overmars has made it clear that Ajax will not sell Alderweireld unless their valuation of the 24-year-old is met.
"As reported over the weekend Atletico have made an offer, but it is not of the requisite level for a Belgian international and has therefore been rejected," the former Netherlands star stated.
Alderweireld joined Ajax from Germinal Beerschot as a teenager before progressing through the youth team ranks at the Eredivisie outfit.
