Manchester United have been in contact with Chelsea to make an enquiry about the availability of play-maker Juan Mata
The play-maker has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer despite becoming a fan favourite at the club.
It is thought that United would be interested in selling striker Wayne Rooney to Chelsea if Mata was allowed to come to Old Trafford as part of the deal.
So far, United have refused to sell Rooney to Chelsea but manager David Moyes is known to rate Mata highly and could be open to the possibility of a straight swap between the two players.
However, most inside Stamford Bridge appear to want Mata to stay, especially owner Roman Abramovich, who has the Spaniard as one of his three favourite currently at Chelsea.
However, manager Jose Mourinho reportedly isn’t a fan of Mata and would be interested in selling the player if it enabled him to strengthen in other positions, especially up front.
The Blues appear close to signing Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Willian, who is another play-maker, meaning Mourinho maybe more than happy to let Mata go if he can get Rooney
