Liverpool are expected to table a bid for Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho, but will face competition from Serie A giants AC Milan.
The France international centre-back has reportedly resolved to leave PSG after slipping down the pecking order at the Ligue 1 side.
New Paris manager Laurent Blanc has intimated recent-arrival Marquinhos is likely to partner fellow Brazilian Thiago Silva at the heart of his PSG back-line.
Liverpool are set to step up interest in Sakho with a firm offer and remain hopeful of beating Milan to the player's signature.
That may pave the way for Martin Skrtel to leave Anfield, with former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez keen to add the Slovakian to his new Napoli side.
Any bid for Sakho, who has 14 caps with the France national team, is likely to be in the region of £8 million.
