Manchester United are expected to re-ignite interest in Benfica centre-back Ezequiel Garay after it emerged Tottenham Hotspur may be readying a bid of their own.
United were first linked with a move for Garay at the end of last season.
Back then new United boss David Moyes was believed to have identified the centre-back spot as one in need of investment, after doubts emerged over whether senior defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand would stand up to the demands of a full Premier League season.
A move for Garay appeared to break down however, despite reports emerging the Argentina international was seen shopping for property in the Manchester region.
Spurs are on the lookout for a player to boost their defensive line following the sale of Steven Caulker to Cardiff City.
The north London side are expected to table a bid for Garay, as manager Andre Villas Boas continues to reshape his side.
However any firm offer for Garay is unlikely to go unnoticed in Manchester, where United are still believed to be keeping a watchful eye on developments.
