Liverpool are said to be closing in on a deal to sign Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, claiming a deal could be completed on Monday.
There had been concerned that issues related to third party ownership of the former Real Valladolid forward could delay any potential deal to sign the 24 year old however it has since transpired that Atletico Madrid do indeed own the player outright.
Costa may have felt his chances of a more prominent role in the Atletico Madrid attack were assisted by the sale of Radamel Falcao to AS Monaco but Diego Simeone then invested in Barcelona striker David Villa and this could well leave the powerful forward open to a move to Merseyside.
The £21m bid from Liverpool is believed to have triggered Costa’s release clause and could well lead to the striker becoming the Anfield side’s fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas and Simon Mignolet.
Costa has scored 28 goals in 80 appearances for Atletico Madrid, of which 27 were coming from the bench
