London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are expected to go head-to-head for the signature of Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez is understood to be close to a departure from Barcelona, after the £50 million arrival of Neymar raised the prospect of limited first-team opportunities at the Nou Camp next season.
Reports on Tuesday suggest Serie A side Napoli have made an approach for Sanchez, with newly-appointed manager Rafael Benitez keen to invest some of his reported £110 million transfer budget in the player.
That news is understood to have alerted Premier League sides Arsenal and Spurs as Sanchez edges towards an exit from Spain.
Arsenal, who are looking to bolster their forward line, may look to Sanchez as an alternative to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, as the Anfield club are reportedly determined to hold out for a fee of £50m.
Spurs meanwhile, are expected to consider Sanchez as a replacement for Gareth Bale, should the Wales international prove successful in his attempts to force through a transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Neither side will want to miss out on the possibility of picking up Sanchez, especially if the Chile international forces his asking price down by handing in a transfer request at Barcelona
