Arsenal are secretly hoping Cesc Fabregas joins Manchester United – so they can complete a sensational deal for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
United tabled a £26 million bid for the Spanish midfielder on Monday, though it is expected to be rejected by the Catalan giants.
However, the Premier League champions are understood to be ready to go as high as £32m for the star, and the Gunners are crossing their fingers they see the improved bid accepted.
Due to a clause in the player’s contract, Barca are believed to be duty-bound to offer Arsenal the chance to re-sign their former captain if they accept a bid from another club.
However, should boss Arsene Wenger reject the opportunity then the Gunners would reportedly stand to bank between 25-50% of any transfer fee.
Should Fabregas leave for £32m, Arsenal would receive up to £16m – giving them enough funds to complete their long-mooted deal for Suarez.
Arsenal reportedly saw a bid in the region of £35m snubbed for the controversial Uruguayan last week.
But, should Fabregas leave, they would be able to match Liverpool’s £40m valuation of the star – and offer him a hefty wage packet to lure him to the Emirates
