Arsenal are readying moves to strengthen their squad with a move to land Swansea City pair Ashley Williams and Michu
Arsene Wenger has been doggedly pursuing Welsh international Williams for some months and though the two sides have differing valuations of the battling centre-back it is thought that the Liberty Stadium defender is keen to secure a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are readying moves to strengthen their squad with a move to land Swansea City pair Ashley Williams and Michu Gunners boss is ready to turn his attentions to Spanish striker Michu after failing with moves for a number of attacking targets including most prominently Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain
The Arsenal manager is known to be a big admirer of the 27 year old, who had an excellent first season in the Premier League, scoring 18 goals in 35 appearances following his £1.6m move from Rayo Vallecano.
Swansea City have spent large sums on new summer signings with chairman Huw Jenkins forking out over £20m to bring in the likes of Ivory Coast forward Wilfried Bony, Liverpool youngster Jonjo Shelvey and La Liga talents Jordi Amat and Jose Canas among others.
This may well have led Wenger to believe that a move to sign two of their players could well be considered and the North London club are willing to offer a combined £22m fee for the South Wales based pair
Wenger’s interest in Williams stems from a desire to beef up his central defensive options following the loaning out of Johan Djourou and the departure of Sebastien Squillaci. The French boss may well also consider offers for Thomas Vermaelen, who is unlikely to be content with a continued spell on the Arsenal bench having been frozen out for the last couple of months of the 2012/13 campaign.
Wenger also sees Michu as an ideal attacking option to challenge Olivier Giroud for a starting spot spearheading the Arsenal attack though the fact that the Swansea City forward can also play in the hole behind a striker is also a factor encouraging the Emirates Stadium boss to make a move for his services.
